Derek Spinser

Initially an historian and musician by training. I was inspired and taught by the Edinburgh based Luthier Bert Kerr during the early 80s over 30 years ago. I then moved to New Zealand to build my own instruments professionally in 1989.

I work from my temperature and humidity controlled workshop based in Richmond at the the top of the South Island of New Zealand. As a musician myself I know what qualities musicians look for and aim to put affordable, custom, premuim instruments in people's hands. I pick the very best imported and native timbers with carefully selected quality fittings.

I sometimes have instruments in stock but prefer to build to orders.
